Writing is how I understand the world.

That’s the first thing to know about me. I may be quiet in social settings, but underestimate an introvert at your own risk. I’m always paying close attention, and then I explore what I learn in my creative nonfiction and short stories.

What I’ve really learned as a writer is that we thrive best alone at our desks with the work and also connected to communities. I’ve volunteered in editorial roles and enjoy teaching, participating in supportive workshops, and sharing the joy of making art.

And, finally, the biographical details you always find on an "about me” page: I was born and raised in Montana, a place I write about often. I love flash fictions, brave memoirs, and exquisite sentences. I currently live in western Pennsylvania with my partner, anywhere from 0-5 kids at a time (the chaos of a blended family), a gecko named Rex, and River, our Border Jack dog.
